Samuel's Story:
From Dream to Reality
Samuel's journey shows the power of our integrated programs. He first enrolled in our Home Health Aide training, graduating as a caregiver in 2021. Driven by a desire for economic independence, he continued with Encuentro's Small Business class, where he developed a business plan and launched his own construction business. In 2024, he joined our Digital Skills class to create his own marketing materials to grow his customer base. Today, his family-run business provides financial stability and a deep sense of pride.
A Model for the Future: The Home Health Aide Program
Our Home Health Aide (HHA) Program is New Mexico's only comprehensive, Spanish-language home care training designed for immigrants to excel in one of the state's fastest-growing industries. This community-centered solution is a replicable model for impact.

Education
This year, 61 graduates were prepared to care for older adults in their homes.

Economic Opportunity
Our paid internship program provided $51,030 worth of subsidized in-home care to 21 low-income older adults.

Leadership Development
75% of the HHA program staff is led by the program's own graduates—Latinx immigrant women who reflect the community they serve.
With new funding, we are breaking ground on the state's first Home Health Training Center in Spring 2026 to help other organizations replicate this successful model.
In Their Voice
The ultimate measure of our impact is in the lives of our graduates.
Since becoming a citizen, I've experienced greater emotional stability, better job opportunities, and a deep sense of pride. Gaining the right to vote was a big motivation, and now my voice is represented in decision-making for our country.
I gained the skills I need to start my business. What started as a dream is now a family-run business and my primary source of income. I never imagined I could get this far.
As a community journalist, I understand how crucial it is for us to share our own stories. When I raise my voice, I ensure that my community is seen and heard authentically.
