Transforming New Mexico,
Together

We believe New Mexico thrives when immigrant families thrive. By engaging Latinx immigrant adults in education, economic opportunities and leadership development, we create opportunities for learning, leadership, and justice that ripple across our communities.

Our Mission

Our mission is to transform New Mexico into a thriving community for all of its residents. We do this by engaging with Latinx immigrant families in educational and career development opportunities that build skills for economic and social justice.

Our Belief

We believe that quality education is transformative — it changes lives, expands opportunity, boosts economic mobility and fuels community power. Leadership development and collective engagement are the roots of building more equitable and inclusive communities.

The Spanish word Encuentro means both "a coming together" and "a discovery." For Latinx immigrants in Central New Mexico, Encuentro is a place where both happen—a community where individuals come together to rebuild connection, support one another, and discover new opportunities through education.

When programs are offered in a justice-centered, culturally affirming environment, they become powerful entry points to leadership and lasting change.

Our Model for Impact

Our programs are grounded in three core pillars that equip immigrant adults with the skills, confidence, and support to build more secure futures for their families. Together, these interconnected pillars form a holistic model for transformation.

The Community We Serve

Our students are resilient English-learning adults seeking to re-engage in their education. Nearly two-thirds are working parents with children under 18 at home, balancing the demands of mixed-status households and multiple low-wage jobs to support their families.

Despite their many cultural and economic contributions, immigrants face a broad range of barriers and discrimination that limit access to social support programs and increase risks of workplace exploitation. For our community, education is more than a classroom opportunity — it is a pathway to dignity, stability, and the power to create a better future.

Our Team & Leadership

Our work is powered by a dedicated team of educators, navigators, and leaders committed to the success of our immigrant community. Our staff and board reflect the community we serve, ensuring our work remains rooted in lived experience and cultural understanding.

We are proud that 75% of our Home Health Aide program staff is led by the program's own graduates—Latinx immigrant women leaders who have transformed their own lives and now lead others in the same path.
